English-Latvian Dictionary for Translators of Legal Texts

In 2006 we published the English-Latvian Dictionary for Translators of Legal Texts. It was compiled by Olgerts Eglitis with the assistance and advise from all our English translators and staff. The design was made by Anitra Eglite. It is an English-Latvian dictionary of legal terms with approximately 1700 entries – terms and phrases. It aims to provide support in translating legal texts (legislation, contracts, judicial documents, legal opinions, corporate documents, certificates, etc.) from English into Latvian. Official sources of terminology, such as terms approved or proposed by the Terminology Commission of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, its Legal Sub-committee, and the LatvianInter-institutional Task Force for Legal Terminology of the European Union, have been widely used in this dictionary. The dictionary is intended for translators, students of the English language and the law and for everyone interested in Latvian and English legal terminology. Work on an expanded second edition of the dictionary is underway. A Latvian-English legal dictionary will also be published later.
